Security expert badly injured when police officers opened fire at Ikeja Airport toll gate accuses the police of neglect

A security expert named Tunde Adeparusi has accused the Nigerian police of neglect after he was badly injured when some police officers opened fire around the Ikeja Airport toll gate two months ago.

Mr Adeparusi was on his way to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday, July 20, 2018, at the same time that some police officers in an SUV were chasing some suspected criminals. The car belonging to the suspects passed through the toll gate and the barrier closed. This angered the police officers, seeing that the suspects were getting away and they got into an argument with toll gate workers and even drove through the barrier, breaking it.

The police attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, soon began firing shots into the air as the argument with the toll gate workers got heated and one of the bullets hit Adeparusi's car and the shattered glass pierced his body (read here).

He said he was taken to the hospital and the police got in touch with him, promising to compensate him. It was also announced that the 4 police officers, one of whom is pictured below, were arrested.

But Adeparusi said he has not heard back from the police, neither have they done anything to alleviate his pains. Efforts by his lawyers to contact the Commissioner of Police have been unsuccessful. He told LIB that he is currently faced with serious medical conditions especially regarding his left ear and left eye as a result of the injuries sustained on that day.
